24 Hour Readathon!

Whoo!

Finally!

Today's the day, folks!!!

I feel pretty, oh so pretty, I feel pretty and witty and gay...well, not really. What I REALLY feel like is: READING! Let's get this party started!

On Thursday, I visited Kyobo bookstore in Daegu and picked up some lucky participant's prize: a book about Korean culture. A Peep Into Korea , (published January 2007) was written by former expat Kevin J. Hayes, now a professor at the University of Central Oklahoma. APIK is a gorgeously readable distillation of Hayes' travel notes of trips he's made into Korea for the past five years, accompanied by his Korean wife.

As far as I can tell, APIK has only been published in Korea, so this is something you won't find at your local bookstore. The winner of this book will have a fun time learning all about Korea, for Hayes' writing is lucid and entertaining, from what I've read of the book by scanning quickly. I had a dark moment in my bookwormy soul when I thought of keeping APIK for myself, but it's too cool not to share. There's another copy for me somewhere.

I'm starting things off by reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Even if his views send some readers into a frothy rage, they should be fair and admit that his writing style is delicious. I'm on page 86. There's other stuff in the "readathon" pile. No biographies, though! Gotta be strict with myself, but who knows where that discipline will be in the waning hours of this endeavor.

Mr. Bybee has assured me that I will win. I told him that it wasn't a contest. He said that I'd win, anyway. Pass the Visine, Mr. Bybee.

Good luck! I am excited for all of you who are participating in the challenge! I wish I could have joined in the fun, but I wasn't up to making the commitment right then.

Happy Reading!

Just checking in with you while I take a break. I'm reading Lisey's Story and enjoying it.

That Korea book sounds neat! Go Mr. Bybee; gotta love that support. :) That's impressive, starting off the challenge w/ Dawkins. I started with a nice, light, big-print YA fantasy novel. I'm a wimp in the mornings!

I just wanted to commend you on your blog roll! It's phenominal! I love to read and I love to read about others who read. You get some great ideas of what's out there on the shelves, by reading what other people read, and what they think of books.

Good luck with the read-a-thon! Have fun!

My son and Mr Bybee have a lot in common. He asked, "Does the person who reads the most pages win?" I told him there was no "win" though there IS a prize for most time spent reading.

I hope you'll stop by and try some mini-challenges when you need a break. :)
