What's wrong with me? I seem to be going through a stage in which I can hardly forbear the sight of a fiction book. I flung aside a Wallace Stegner novel 50 pages in, and I love Wallace Stegner's work! But no, only nonfiction will do. As much as I'm enjoying (maybe not quite the right word) this romp on the real side, I'm decidedly out of whack and hope that I'll get my fiction feeling back again soon.

This has got to be one of the oddest reading lists around. It's a wonder I'm owning up to it.
I read mostly non-fiction at the beginning of this year - 8 books about mountain climbing! lol So go figure, since I won't be climbing any hills in the near future. Sometimes our minds need something different....and you are moving, so maybe this is creating a sense in your mind that you need something to sink your teeth into that's real (ha! no pun!) while you deal with the changes happening. And the sadness over that ferry thinking. What a terrible awful tragedy.
ReplyDeleteEven if your reading list is odd, you are reading so many books, book-twin! How was Flight Behaviour? I almost picked it up recently, I do enjoy her work. I really want to read Home by Bill Bryson, just haven't got around to picking it up yet. And how was Orange Is the New Black? I started reading that in the bookstore, but have been deciding if I want to read the whole thing. I think I do.....
Susan,
ReplyDeleteFlight Behavior irritated me while I was reading it, but the beauty of its scientific elements has stayed with me and the irritation has faded. Orange is the New Black was much better than I expected. Was pleasantly surprised. I'm trying to get myself together to do a comparison post between that and Brother One Cell by Cullen Thomas.
I've had non-fiction swings myself. They're always surprising. I hope you get your fiction mojo back soon.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous stew of a book list. I'm loving all that nonfiction.
