A Blue-Hearted State of Mind

The sides of wet stones cannot console me,/Nor the moss, wound with the last light.

Empty chairs at empty tables.

I've been a truly blue-hearted bookworm this week because of the Sewol ferry disaster here in South Korea.  Like many other people, I'm heartbroken and outraged. My pendulum swings from disgust to sorrow and back again.  It's impossible to live in a country for a decade and spend that time working with the younger segment of the population and not be affected.  So many words have been said and written and will continue to be, but none will ever be adequate.

  1. No words will have make this tragedy any less painful.

  3. I think it's a good thing that blogging has brought so many people from so many parts of the world to my doorstep. This tragedy would have come and gone, passed by me without touching me had I never started reading your blog.

Reading you, and many other people all over the world, makes me take a closer look at things, feel them a little more, than I would have otherwise.

I think that's a good thing even when the situation is a tragic one. It's always better to be connected to other people in my view.
