A Visit to the 1001 List
I'd love to put more of a dent into this list of 1001 don't-croak-till-you-read-these, but I can't be held to just one list. I'm just not that kind of reader (focused, dutiful).
Every now and then though, I like to revisit 1001 Mountain and see how I'm doing and get some reading ideas and get frustrated then I'm off again.
Looks like I'm at about 15%. I'm currently reading two: Midnight's Children and The Mill On The Floss. That'll help.

I've been slowly but surely making my way through the list too. I never intentionally read the books on the list, but one of my favorite things to do in the first week of January is to get my giant copy of the 1001 Books to read Before you Die off the shelf and check off all the books I read during the year. It always surprises me which ones are in the list. I love it!
Right there at the very top: Never Let Me Go.... Must. Read.
*sigh* I've read 53 on the list. Working on older classics right now: Dickens, Moby Dick, George Eliot.....I am a little ashamed to say that most of the books in the newer part of the list, I DON"T want to read! NOOOO! I'm going to make my own list of 1000 books to read before I die! lol I just can't read some of the newest modern fiction, it holds no interest for me. I want to read the older books....I think we should have genre lists, for mystery and fantasy, since many of the books I have read on the 1000 books to read before death list, are from those areas!
Mostly I'm mad because I can no longer remember which early gothic books I read in university, nor which Hammett and Changler books were on my mystery class list at uni! I know I read them....so I can't count the titles unless I can remember something from the book! lol

I do the same thing Melissa does! Altho, I am currently being nauseated by AMerican Psycho and don't want to finish it but probably will. Small doses...
OH, and I can recommend Banville's The Sea because it is rather short. :D
While I know in my heart that lists like this are essentially ridiculous, I love them. I really love them.
I'm probably close to 30% myself. Figuring out the exact figure would involve more math than I want to do on a Sunday morning.
