Weekly Geeks #13 Picture My Authors
While Dewey was moving, her brain was stewing. Our Geekly task is to post photos of authors we love, authors we've been reading, authors we've met, authors we think are hot and authors we're reading right now. To add to the fun, Dewey suggests that we not identify which is which -- instead make a game of it and offer a prize to geekish good guessers:
`
1. Which authors are perennial favorites of mine? (4)
2. Which authors do I think are [fanning furiously] hot? (2)
3. Which authors have I met? (2)
4. Which author am I reading right now?
5. Which author did I just finish reading?
`
Hint: One author will be an answer twice. I really don't think you need hints, though. This contest is a cakewalk.
`
Prize: A copy of A Conspiracy Of Paper by David Liss. This book won the 2000 Edgar Award for Best First Novel.
If there is a tie, I'll tear the book in half and one winner will receive chapters 1-18 and the other winner chapters 19-36, plus the historical note at the end of the novel.

I think the author which you just finsihed reading is Nick Hornby. He's one of my favourites. Unfortunately, I don't recognize the others.
Erg, just dropping by to tell you I finally answered your question(s) to my WG#12 post. You can find them here:

Thanks for asking, I had a lot of fun trying to come up with intelligent answers! :p
I recognize Michael Chabon and Nick Hornby. I've read A Conspiracy of Paper--did you? I enjoyed it.
Where's Robertson Davies???? How could you drop him so!!! what's Nick doing back up there??
Nick is of course the answer to your favourite author and HOTTIE.....sigh, everyone else I have no idea to. Still trying to get all my links back on my blog, so be back later. wonder if I have time to add authors/do my Weekly Geeks too?
I see Michael Chabon and Anne Tyler.
I think I see John Kennedy Toule, your most recently finished author.
Obviously Hornby is hot, AND SO IT THAT GUY WITH THE BLUE EYES. Who is he? Inquirying eyes want to know.
I'm guessing Ishiguro is a perennial fav, if that is him.
I may be back if I figure out who some of the other authors are.
alessandra,
No, I didn't just finish Nick Hornby.
Michelle,
Thanks, I'll head over there!
Gentle Reader,
I really enjoyed ACOP. Benjamin Weaver is very cool. I wanted to choose a book that was smart and entertaining for the prize.
Susan,
I had waaay too many authors up there at first & had to cull down a bit. Yeah, you can do Weekly Geeks anytime...I've seen some people get to it several weeks late! Good luck with your blog makeover. I'll be popping in soon to check it out.
Debnance,
Good author recognition.
Raidergirl3,
Score one point for John Kennedy Toole being my most recently read author.
Score one point for my hotties, even if you couldn't get Mr. Blue Eyes. Hint: He won the Pulitzer Prize a few years ago and also my heart.
Re the Asian guy...wrong country!
Don't despair...so far, you're in the lead!
oh, oh, oh, Mr Kot-ter!
Michael Chabon is adorable. Those blue eyes. I may have to read a book of his. (thanks for the hint)
Off to do more research. A challenge like this is something I can't refuse.
Currently reading: Chang-Rae Lee
perennial fav: John Updike
some of those pics are driving me nuts because I somewhat recognize them, but cannot place them at all.
this is fun! I'm such a geek.
Bybee, I'm miserable about this! Either I only read books that never print pictures of whoever wrote it or - I have NO idea why - but I don't have a clue. (and I haven't read anyone else's comments yet)
It's time for hints:
Four possibilities for number one, and here are your hints: Eastwick, Archer City, Texas, Baltimore and Salinas.
Who have I met? Two possibilities:
Hints: 1. Archer City, Texas 2. Leonardo DiCaprio played him in a movie based on his memoir.
My hotties have already been identified.
My current read and most recent reads have been identified.
good luck!
pereennial favs: updike, tyler, mcmurty, steinbeck
met: mcmurtry, frank abagnale
Raidergirl3,
You are so geeky...I bow to your uber-geekiness! Not worthy! You got all of question 1 right.
But...
That's not Frank A. As far as surnames go, you need to head almost to other end of the alphabet.
Tobias Wolff autographed In the Garden for me back in '94. I'll guess you met him.
Chabon is even gorgeouser in person. . .
That's the book he autographed for me as well! I met him in 93 or 94 at my university. He was friends with one of my profs.
I'm closing this contest and awarding the prize to Raidergirl3 because she worked the hardest on nailing down the clues. Congrats, Raidergirl3...email me with your addy.
That was exactly the same situation here.
I wanted chapters 1-18!
:(
Check out my author photos!
I was wondering if you'd finished A Confederacy of Dunces. Can't wait to see what you thought of it. Unless I've screwed up and missed your comments. I can't seem to keep up, this week.
Bookfool,
Yes, I finished COD and absolutely loved it...review coming...I promise!
