Happy Birthday, Blog!

Today my blog turns 4 years old. I guess if it were a kid, I could buy it a little red bicycle with training wheels. The high point of my own fourth birthday was a cowgirl outfit. Turquoise. With white fringe.

Four years deserves a moment of reflection: My "blob", as my mother calls it, has changed names 3 times: From March till December 2004, it was called "In Today's Reading Room". For about 5 days in January of 2005, it was called "My Nose In a Book." Finally, it became "Naked Without Books!". Last year, some nudist chewed my ass for equating nakedness with vulnerability.

When I started the blog, I knew I'd be writing reviews and writing about reading, but I didn't realize that I'd be writing so much about the thrill of hunting and gathering books, which took on a whole new level when I moved to Korea late in 2004. I lost a couple of libraries, but found a couple of book groups. That's fair enough.

The best thing about this blog is that it has led me to other book blogs and a whole community of bookworm friends. Thanks everyone on my blogroll and beyond for being there and helping me to realize I'm not alone in my bibliomania. In fact, some of you are truly bookworm gods and goddesses, especially those that take on a reading challenge for practically every day of the year. Compared to you, I'm just a pretender to the shelves, but I keep trying. I wanna be like you! Have some cake. Here's some ice cream. We'll party again next year when "Blob" turns 5!

I'm late as well. I'll fight Kookiejar for the last piece of cake.

Hope you and your blog have many more years together.

Happy Blogiversary!

And now I'm trying to figure out what anti-nudists would be called. That, I guess. Racist, sexist, nudist. Hmm. Not the same.

Does The Family No One Wanted have a little boy named...Tommy? who solemnly inspected his mom's freckles and announced they were 'bad spots like apples and could be cut out?' I loved that book.

Congratulations, Suzie! My blog is a mere infant compared to yous! It takes commitment and interest to keep it up, so here's to you and your blog (lifting a cup of your choice to you) - thanks for your cheery and loving words about books! You must be very proud (grin) Your blog is in good shape!!! Very healthy 4 year old.

Thanks, everyone, for the birthday wishes. Blob is nodding his head with its chocolate icing stained face in agreement.

Carrie K,
I don't remember which kid said that, but I do remember the "bad spots" comment clearly.

Ha ha, equating WHAT?

Happy four years! My one year is coming up, and my blog still feels so, so, so new.

I have to say, one of the things I enjoy most about your blog is the hunting/gathering in Korea thing. I still shake my head in horror at the idea of books in libraries being locked up! It makes me realize how lucky I am to have such easy access to books.
