We Are All Fine Here

I've been sitting on some really nice news for a few days now, and was ready to write about it during the weekend, but it's so good that I didn't want it to be overshadowed by the Readathon.

While I was in the US, I looked (and looked) for We Are All Fine Here by Mary Guterson, but couldn't find it. This was annoying. Guterson's book had been on my wishlist for a year or more -- whenever I saw it mentioned on Nancy Pearl's site. When Bookfool published her excellent review last May 16, complete with that great cover picture, I knew I had to read it. But I couldn't find it. Damn! Of course, me being me, I groused about it in my blog.

Mary Guterson, by some miracle, read my blog and emailed me and offered to send me a copy of her novel! Of course I accepted, trying not to act too goony. As an example of my restraint, I didn't mention that Snow Falling On Cedars by David Guterson (her brother, I think) once made me throw up -- it was the autopsy scene early in the book. That hasn't happened before or since. Anyway, I didn't think there was any way I could convey that somewhat interesting information in a graceful manner.

I'm pretty dazzled. Wonder if I'll ever get over my feeling of authors (at least, the ones I like or think I'll like) being like royalty or rock stars? This is so great of Mary Guterson! If you see We Are All Fine Here during your bookstore travels, snap it up!

Wow, Bybee! That is so fantastic. Her generosity makes me want to go out and buy everyone I know a copy of her book.

That is a pretty fantastic story Bybee. It'll probably be autographed and everything.

That's so cool. She sounds like a wonderful person. My sister and I both really enjoyed that book. (WHY can't you use Book Depository though - where I bought my copy from? Don't they deliver to Korea?)
I'm looking forward to reading Matrimony too.
