Kimbooktu's Bookish Meme

I've been tagged for Kimbooktu's bookish meme...looks like fun!

1. Hardcover or paperback, and why? Paperback, because they're lighter and therefore easier to carry in my purse or backpack.
2. If I were to own a book shop I would call it… I was going to say Naked Without Books, but I might get the wrong element in the store! Second choice is Bybee's Books. zzzzzzzzzzzz.
3. My favorite quote from a book (mention the title) is… "There is no joy in Mudville..." It's from the poem "Casey At The Bat", which has been published as a children's book with the same title.
4. The author (alive or deceased) I would love to have lunch with would be ….Stephen King. We could both talk about Don Robertson's novels, as we're both big fans. Dorothy Parker would also be good, but so funny I'd probably choke on my food.
5. If I was going to a deserted island and could only bring one book, except from the SAS survival guide, it would be…The Collected Works Of William Shakespeare. Or maybe a blank book.
6. I would love someone to invent a bookish gadget that….Gadgets be damned. I need a bookish genie to fetch me whatever the latest desire of my capricious bookworm heart happens to be at the moment.
7. The smell of an old book reminds me of….both of my hometown libraries, which I dearly love and miss.
8. If I could be the lead character in a book (mention the title), it would be….Robinson Crusoe, from the novel of the same name.
9. The most overestimated book of all times is….I can't decide between 2 certain books having to do with religion.
10. I hate it when a book…. has a character or characters chock-full of redeeming qualities and values and no visible flaws. I'd rather read 10 books brimming with unpleasant flaw-ridden characters than one page of something like At Home In Mitford.

Tag! You're IT! Have fun!

Sam at Book Chase
Kookiejar at A Fraternity Of Dreamers
Jenclair at A Garden Carried In The Pocket
V at With A Cup Of Coffee
Eva at A Striped Armchair

In other news (or perhaps the same old, same old) I found 2 more books I can consider for the In Their Shoes challenge:

The Autobiography Of Malcolm X - Malcolm X with Alex Haley
A Beautiful Mind - Sylvia Nasar

Finally, here's a picture of where I live. Dormitory Sweet Dormitory.

I as well would love to have lunch with Stephen King (and Don Robertson, were he alive of course). I just found out about Don Robertson a month ago after reading his endorsement by Stephen King, and have finished Paradise Falls. What an awesome book!

I've ordered a few others of his (used) like Make a Wish, Ideal, Genuine Man, Flag Full of Stars, Praise the Human Season, and Prisoners of Twilight.

I did notice that there was a recent movie called Swimming Upstream http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0259017/
that appears to be a version of The Greatest Thing that Almost Happened...

I agree with you Bybee, I hate books full of goody goody characters. Real people aren't like that. Everyone has a dark side. Thanks for the tag. I'll think this one over. Probably have it up on Friday. :)

Hehe! #9 made me chuckle!
And I completely agree with you about #10. Flawed characters are just so much more interesting to read about.

Thanks for tagging me Bybee, this one sounds like fun!

I loved "Casey at the Bat" when I was little. :) Great poem!

I agree with you on #9, but I'll have to come up with something different.

Damn! I'd have to think about the answers..
and I can't think of anyone to tag... well, I can think of may be 2 people.. but that's about it... I'll have to come up with 3 more... anyway, I'll see you on Sunday...

Oh, you have a lovely dormitory. I'd probably jump out the window, but I think my house is too small for us (the thousands of books taking up floor space *could* figure in there, somewhere) and I'm known to be vaguely pathetic.

I loved your answers, particularly that one about characters without flaws. Flaws are human and characters without flaws just don't work. But, you knew that.

I'm going to have to think about this one! I have such a hard time making definitive comments about what I like...I dither and explain and change my mind.

I love seeing your home! How many square feet do you have?

I just noticed in your sidebar photo how the books are stacked on those shelves. Where is that? Why are they stacked that way?

I did this meme (but haven't posted it yet) and some of our answers are similar

Miami Heat,
Thanks for the heads up about that movie! Out of the stuff you've ordered, I've only read Paradise Falls and Prisoners of Twilight. I'm looking forward to the day when I seriously begin working my way through the rest of Robertson's canon.

Kookiejar,
I enjoyed your meme.

Tanabata,
I was trying to be delicate with number nine. Guess everyone got my meaning. Yeah, those dark side characters make for good reading!

Eva, Great job on the meme ...thanks for participating.

V,
I thought your answers were great. I had a great time today!
See you in two weeks!

Bookfool...thousands of books? Can I like, you know, come visit? I'll bring you a book or maybe something from a bath shop. You know. As a bribe.

Jenclair,
I haven't been to your blog yet to see if you've done it, but if you haven't, you can do it. If you already have: See? I told you so!

Tara,
I don't know the measurements in English measurement, only Korean, but it's about the size of your average hotel room and long and rectangular like that as well.

Dewey,
That's the used bookstore in Sedalia, Missouri, Trade-A-Book. My husband took the pic and said he was trying to me surrounded by books. The whole store is shelved that way. Always has been since I began haunting it years ago.

You may visit any time, but be prepared to trip and hurt yourself. Book injuries are common in this house. I might have to make you sign a disclaimer. You would have such fun in my home, though, ugly and disastrous as it is. When my mother comes to visit, she looks down her nose at the quantity of books, makes exactly one loudly negative comment, and then begins pulling books off the shelves. She spends at least half of her visiting time reading my books and then takes home a box. Bless her, she's just so conflicted.
