Book Giveaway!
OK, my Pulitzer fiction prediction attempt was not too accurate, although I was right about Tree Of Smoke getting a nod from the committee. It's just got that kind of title. Clearly, I won't be heading to Vegas anytime soon. (Or even Busan, for that matter.)
But so what? I'm actually pleased, because The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz (I sort of got the "exotic name" thing right) is a novel that is unfamiliar to me, and I'm all about discovering new books. I hope it doesn't get a nosebleed from zooming to the top of my wishlist so fast. As I told Aaron this morning, the beauty part is that no matter who wins, all the Pulitzer fiction winners (at least in the past 3 years) soon become available in Korea. Sometime this summer, I should have this novel in my hot little bookwormy hands.
Speaking of getting books, you've got a chance to win a book from me. Was last week the "Buy A Friend A Book" deal? I couldn't quite get it together in time.
The book in question is Korea Bug by J. Scott Burgeson. I gave it a rave review a couple of posts ago, when I reviewed what I read in March. It's a brilliant compilation of zines that Burgeson did beginning when he came to Korea about 12 years ago. Right out of the gate, Burgeson strongly resolved that he wouldn't stick to a safe and snooze-inducing typical touristy look at the country and its culture. The result is bold, fresh and exciting and as addictive as the taste of kimchi.
Enough rhapsodizing. To be eligible to win, leave a comment. The deadline to enter this contest is April 15, 2008. The following day, the winner's name will be drawn ...by a Korean.
