A Library For Bybee?

Wish me luck! I've got a job interview on November 10th at a university in Seoul. If I were fortunate enough to beat out all the other fine applicants and actually get this job, it would definitely be a step up, career-wise. Also, I'd be in Seoul and muchmuchmuch closer to BOOKLEAVES, my beloved book group. Not to mention several well-stocked bookstores.

Last night though, I realized fully ALL the implications of what this could mean if things go well: This university has probably (without having clapped eyes upon it or researched the matter, I'm nearly 80-90% sure) got a library that goes past 799! A lovely-smelling library with 800s and 900s and novels and biographies...could it be? Finally? A book group AND several bookstores AND a complete library? My mind boggles at the thought of these riches being right within my bibliomanic grasp.

I'm euphoric at the moment, but by the time the interview rolls around, I'll be panicked and nervous. I must stay calm and keep my eye on the prize. The thing is, how do I work a question about the library into my interview and manage to sound sane and intelligent and not like I'm just dying to get at their books?

Hey, good luck for the interview. Not quite sure how you could slip your question in. Maybe you can make it sound studious - that you would love to have better access to "research materials" or something.

And remember, just keep breathing and check your teeth before going in.

Good luck! If it's some kind of teaching English position, you could ask about the library's English holdings as if it's for your students. ;)

Dark Orpheus,
I've got the studious tone down, but am working with a mirror to tone down the look of wild, wolfish delight on my face.

Men,
Thanks!

Literary Feline,
I don't know if I deserve it, but I want it.

Katya,
I'll be interviewing to teach English conversation to Korean university students...hopefully some reading and writing classes as well.

Tara,
It's a whole nother world, that's for sure.

Sam,
Soon would be great. The job would start in March.

Jenclair,
thank you thank you thank you

Eva,
Thanks for helping me frame my question so that it looks like I'm completely student-centered.

a.book.in.the.life,
I've heard that it's a nice place to work.

I was going to ask why you couldn't just go browse around the library before the interview, but then I remembered you saying something shocking about LOCKED UP BOOKS a while back.

Maybe you could say something like you heard this library is more comprehensive than others? Sometimes making a question sound like admiration can cover your real motivation. But, I don't know, shouldn't they WANT you to love books and be excited by access to them?

Good luck! I know how nerve-wracking job interviews can be!

And novels and other books are a great way to help with English conversation, right? You could work in a question that way, as others have said.
