Dewey's Hour 1 Challenge

I nearly missed this, thank goodness for book-sense, which is kind of like Peter Parker's "spider-sense". In Hour 1 of the Readathon, Dewey mentioned that an author, Joshua Henkin is holding a drawing for his novel Matrimony. He wants to give away a copy to one of us. God, I love authors. Truly I do.

In a nutshell, Henkin (should I call him that? It sounds a little unfriendly, but since he's an AUTHOR, Joshua sounds too familiar. Mr. Henkin sounds like I'm brown-nosing) requires that we mention his novel or something about matrimony, yours or anyone else's then send him an email saying you did so.

I'm definitely entering this challenge. It's partly bibliomania, but also because Dewey wrote that she loves this novel, and that's good enough for me. I have to confess that the title pulls me in because I've recently resumed living with my husband after a 3-year, bi-continental separation. As a result, it often seems as if matrimony is a living, breathing, challenging, not always pleasant but always interesting thing unto itself. I'm intrigued to know if Matrimony will explore the many layers of what Henry James once wrote (paraphrasing) is "the most deliberate thing a person will do in their lifetime."

You had the EXACT thoughts I had wondering what to call him in my blog post. He signs his emails "Joshua" but... it felt too familiar to post that way in my blog, like I was pretending we were pals or something.

I love your response. It really does feel like matrimony is something alive outside the two people involved. I have to admit I nosily wondered about your separation from Mr Bybee, but whatever the reason, it sounds like your reconnection is a positive thing, in the way you mention him.

And I wanted to tell you that I saw a comment you left saying you were too late for the foreign language challenge, but if you want to do it, that's actually open right until the end of the readathon.

Wonderful post! I hope you win the book. On the other hand, I kind of hope to win it myself! :)

Like Dewey, I was also nosy :) I'm not keen on marriage myself but I think if both of you put in enough effort then things can't not work out for you. I thought your post was a great entry into the mini challenge, good luck.

Your response intrigues me - and in the tradition of great romances...in fact a romance within marriage. Now that is an interesting concept.
