Just finished Sounder, the 1970 Newbery winner. Grim but beautiful writing. I've gone from the weirdest to the most depressing Newbery.
I'm switching gears for the next few hours. No more Newberys. My upcoming book is Chocolat, by Joanne Harris. My friend Teri, who is doing her own version of the Readathon, says that it's a great read.
The book is very different than the book. I read the book a long time before the movie came out, and while the movie is nice, they took out most of the tension between the priest and Vianne.
Oh I love that movie (Chocolat) and I bet the book is ever better (isn't it always?) You are doing fab...keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great choice for the final hours of the read-a-thon: keep those pages turning!
