Getting My Shoes All In A Row

Wow, deciding my books for this challenge was really difficult, but this is the final list.
I think.
I'm pretty sure.
Well, fairly sure.
For now.

[in no particular order]

1. My Life In France - Julia Child

2. Lillian Hellman: A Life With Foxes And Scoundrels -Deborah Martinson

3. Brainiac - Ken Jennings FINISHED

4. Poet Of The Appetites (biography of MFK Fisher) - Joan Reardon

5. Going Solo - Roald Dahl FINISHED

6. Travels With Charley - John Steinbeck FINISHED

7. Tete-A-Tete: The Tumultuous Lives & Loves Of Simone De Beauvoir And Jean-Paul Sartre - Hazel Rowley [Do you think it'll live up to its title?] FINISHED

8. My Detachment - Tracy Kidder FINISHED

9. After All - Mary Tyler Moore [I wanted to be MTM when I was a kid. I wanted an apartment like hers, except with a big S on the wall. I wanted to move to Minneapolis and throw my cute knitted beret up in the air. So far, none of that has panned out.]

10. The Hiding Place - Corrie ten Boom [This was published in comic book form when I was in middle school. What a great story.]

11. The Hungry Ocean - Linda Greenlaw FINISHED

12. A Thousand Sorrows - Elizabeth Kim [The Korean connection]

13. Truth & Beauty - Ann Patchett FINISHED
14. Schultz and Peanuts: A Biography - David Michaelis FINISHED
15. Diane Arbus - Patricia Bosworth FINISHED

  1. Truth and Beauty is wonderful (and best read in partnership with Lucy Grealy's Autobiography of a face, if you haven't already done so).
As a good Christian girl I *should* have read The Hiding Place (I know everyone else did). One day. And I have the Roald Dahl here somewhere.

  2. Ooh, I remember the comic book version of The Hiding Place! And I would definitely recommend reading Lucy Grealy's Autobiography of a Face if you're going to read Truth and Beauty :)

  3. Julia Child's book was so surprising to me.

  4. Greetings - from one Bybee Bookseller to another!:

I'm Jack, now resident in Tucson, AZ. before that Cape Town, South Africa... where I plied my trade of technical bookseller for many years. (Also created what became the largest technical/computer/business book section in the South East (US) in Atlanta, GA.... then came NYU Bookcenter in NYC. Nuff said.

I am delighted to see another Bybee in bookselling.

Now, I am, for the next few days an undergraduate at Univ. of Arizona (I graduate on Friday Dec. 14th/15th 2007 with B.A. Studio Art/Creative Writing and Psychology.)

Now, by profession - a technical writer, who wishes he could be back with aching feet and pesty customers on the bookstore floor.

Sorry to take up your comment space.

    Happy Hols.

    Kindest,

    Jack.
