She asked for librarians and readers (and others, I think) to nominate their top ten favorites and then compiled them based on the number of votes and the rank. I think I've read somewhere near the 70s, though with all the ones I read as a kid forgotten, it's possibly higher :)melissa @ 1lbrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03292714636311546457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6604938.post-28317585749231611022010-04-22T21:50:46.071-07:002010-04-22T21:50:46.071-07:00Raidergirl,

They were foundations of my youthful reading. Tuck Everlasting is about a family in the woods who drank from a fountain of youth and why that is a BAD thing and how other people might find out. And the Dark is Rising is the first in an EXCELLENT magical YA series about a boy who is the 7th son of the 7th soon (something? i last read it 10 years ago) who has powers that he doens't know about but has to figure out soon bc he is the only one who can save the world from a great evil. of course.Lusty Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04035437543878036158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6604938.post-53605877205724243032010-04-20T20:58:03.063-07:002010-04-20T20:58:03.063-07:00FINALLY.. i read your post on TOP 11 Children'...FINALLY.. i read your post on TOP 11 Children's Literature Books :D I think I read maybe half of what's on that list... been busy with life.. My childself only recognized about five as having read and recognizable from childself times: Island of the Blue Dolphins?!?!?! YES!!! and of course, CSLewis, Charlotte's Web, Ramona and LittleHouseOnPrairie. But the rest are almost entirely my adult self now educated since bookblogging that these are classics. I have actually read a handful of these since 2007. First, ...great list bybee, lots to add comments to.
First, don't give up on Spinelli. I think he has two writing styles - one for younger kids - like that toothbrush one, but an older style as well - Maniac Magee and Stargirl.

Agree about Margaret - I read the book multiple times, but didn't get why she wanted a bra and her period. It made me feel off for not wanting that stuff.

I differ on you about diCamillo. Love Despereaux and Winn Dixie, but that could be because I read them to my daughter, and she adored them, so it rubbed off on me.

I would have included the Little House books and the Harry Potters as one entry - the series as a whole must be read.

And then I read your Anne entry. You understand if you come to PEI you must see me, right?raidergirl3https://www.blogger.com/profile/03629915042716259349noreply@blogger.com
