May Reading and Reading and Reading

In spite of all those abandoned books, I got a lot of reading done during May:

1. The Kindness of Strangers - Mike McIntyre. Nonfiction.

2. The Total Money Makeover - Dave Ramsey.  Nonfiction.

3. 31 Tasty Boneless Chicken Breast Recipes - Jenny Collins. Nonfiction.

4. The Man Cave Cookbook - Matt Thompson.  Nonfiction.

5. Labor Day - Joyce Maynard.  Fiction.

6. Rifles for Watie - Harold Keith.  Fiction.

7. Our Only May Amelia - Jennifer L. Holm.  Fiction.

8. Call Me Zelda - Erika Robuck.  Fiction.

9. Good Eggs - Phoebe Potts.  Graphic memoir. (About infertility, not food)

10. Secrets of the Millionaire Mind - T. Harv Eker.  Nonfiction.

11. The Sportswriter - Richard Ford.  Fiction.

12. The Richest Woman in America: Hetty Green and the Gilded Age - Janet Wallach.  Nonfiction.

13. The Guts - Roddy Doyle.  Fiction.

14. A Mummer's Wife - George Moore.  Fiction.

15. Hark!  A Vagrant! - Kate Beaton.  Graphic novel.

16. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings - Maya Angelou.  Memoir.

Favorites:
The Kindness of Strangers, The Total Money Makeover, The Man Cave Cookbook, Rifles for Watie, Good Eggs, The Guts, A Mummer's Wife, Hark! A Vagrant! and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

If I had them to do over again, I might not:
31 Tasty Boneless Chicken Breast Recipes, Labor Day, Call Me Zelda, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind and The Richest Woman in America.

Darn! I was going to say that the chicken recipes was weirdly calling to me. I've never read a cookbook on my Kindle, though. Assuming that it was a cookbook. Sort of an odd title if it's the true story of a woman and her pet elephant.

The recipes in the chicken cookbook seemed tasty, but there was unnecessary repetition in the directions. This happened over and over, and I grew more distracted and irritated.

LOVELY list. I hope to catch a few of these sometime soon.

I feel the same way about Labor Day. There was some beautiful writing but not enough to get me to finish the book. I'm thinking about re-reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
